Mid-Michigan Spartans Give Back to Their Community

On Saturday March 29, local Spartans made a difference in Lansing. The Board of the MSU Alumni Club of Mid-Michigan held a volunteer day from 9 am – 1 pm at at the Ronald McDonald House of mid-Michigan.

Alumni club board members and their families spent the morning preparing a special meal for guests of the house and helping out with a variety of chores, including cleaning, organizing the library, and making needed repairs. In other words, they helped Ronald McDonald House get ready for the GREENing of spring!

Awards Convocation / State of the University Address 2008
On February 12, 2008 the MSU Alumni Club of Mid-Michigan was recognized at the 2008 Awards Convocation/State of the University Address at the Pasant Theatre of Wharton Center. The Club was recognized for its continued support for underwriting and sponsoring the MSU Alumni Club of Mid-Michigan Quality in Undergraduate Teaching Award. Two distinguished faculty members, Kelly F. Millenbah from the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, and Jonas Zoninsein from the James Madison College, were each presented $2,000 stipends and recognized for their outstanding contribution to undergraduate education.

Club President, Jeff Hicks, was invited to join MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon, Provost Kim Wilcox and a host of other university dignitaries on stage as part of the official party. The presentation of the awards followed President Simon's Founders' Day address. The awards, which have been given by the Club since the early 1990's, are just one more way that the MSU Alumni Club of Mid-Michigan gives back to the University.

Endowed Scholarship is Fully Funded - In less than 18 months!
The MSU Alumni Club of Mid Michigan (“Club”) has fully endowed a scholarship for students in the tri-county area to attend Michigan State University. The tri-county area has hundreds of young people who have selected Michigan State University as their college of choice. With the rising cost of education, the pressure on students and their families requires additional funding to help realize their dreams. In response to this need, the Mid-Michigan Alumni Board has created and funded an MSU Endowed Scholarship Fund.

2008 Spartan Crystal Ball
This annual semi-formal event raises funds for the Club's Endowed Scholarship Fund. The Spartan Crystal Ball committee plans and implements all the details for the Ball.

PLEASE SAVE THE DATE: SPARTAN CRYSTAL BALL ’08
Saturday, December 6, 2008
Henry Center/University Club, East Lansing

We are pleased to announce that the 2008 Spartan Crystal Ball will be held Saturday, December 6, at the James B. Henry Center for Executive Development, adjacent to the University Club. Given rave reviews from the ’07 Ball, Carl Cafagna’s 14-piece Swing Band has been booked for an encore performance. The price will remain $75 per person, which is a terrific value given the elegant dinner, festive environment and a terrific band for listening and dancing.

Over 190 sponsors and guests enjoyed the first annual Spartan Crystal Ball, which raised $14,000 for the MSU Alumni Club of Mid-Michigan’s Endowed Scholarship Fund. Thirteen MSU Deans supported the event, including Dean Elizabeth Simmons from Lyman Briggs, where our first scholarship recipient, Peter Weiss, is enrolled.
